What is the "Inquiry Lesson Presentation?"
This is a 2-5 minute presentation you will make to your classmates on the inquiry-based lesson you will create for your final project (a 5-lesson thematic unit).  You must provide enough materials for all of your classmates to run the experiment during the presentation.

What format should my lesson follow?
Look at the Tea Bag Diffusion activity for a model of the lesson plan format that is required for all five lesson plans you are required to complete.

What is the Mid-Term Essay?
The Mid-Term Essay should be no longer than three typed pages, in Word format and emailed to me by the due date.  Your essay should include a detailed description of your (future) science classroom. You will need to describe:
  • the type of activities that would be given based on GLE standards, Early Childhood standards, MoStep and/or NSES standards

  • references to how you are turning educational theory into practice within your activities/discussions with your students

  • what an observer would see students doing and what you as the teacher will be doing

  • general safety concerns and accommodations for students with disabilities

What is the Journal Article?
You will choose an article about science education from an educational journal such as Science and Children, Ed Leadership, Kappan, Instructor, Teaching Children Mathematics etc. that is dated from 2005 to present. A written reflection paper summarizing the main points of the article and a personal opinion will need to be included within this paper.  The Journal Article paper should be no longer than three typed pages, in Word format and emailed to me by the due date.

What is the final thematic unit?
The final thematic unit must contain the following information:
  • Cover page with your name, the name of the unit and the date

  • Two (2) lessons containing inquiry-based experiments

  • One (1) lesson describing a technology-based experiment (i.e. website or video integration within the unit, hardware use, etc.)

  • Two (2) additional supporting lessons

Each lesson must be in the format as modeled in the Tea Bag Diffusion activity.  The entire unit must be in Word format and emailed to me by the due date.
